After many years to decorating ceramics, I like the relative immediacy of producing prints , rather than waiting for the kiln to cook and then to cool. Cutting the lino requires considerable precision and I am still working on managing details without too much finger cramp.
Over the past couple of years, I have taken courses with Ian Phillips at Handprinted in Bognor Regis, and Richenda Court at Ochre, Guildford, as well as shorter courses at Handcrafted and at Farnham Maltings.
I am now enjoying classes at South Hill Park with Basia Gorska, and have exhibited at the Students' Open Exhibition in Summer 2023.
I use an Xpress Xcut press for smaller prints and a converted mangle (dating back to the 1900s or earlier!) for larger pieces. I use Marmoleum linoleum as well as craft lino and vinyl plates. For accurate registration, Ternes Burton pins ensures that multi-layer prints line up exactly.
I also have used handmade gell plates to produce monoprints for even swifter printing.
